Then and Now


Check out this great photo of Hershel McGriff passing another car along a narrow twisted mountain road in the 1950 La Carrera Panamericana on his way to the big win but more importantly notice the fact they are on a dirt road and no guard rails too boot. This road looks like many such gravel/dirt roads I grew up racing on.

That's a stunning shot; the background shows the dramatic terrain that the 2 racers have already dealt with: the steep climb, the hairpins, no guardrails and the steep drop-off, all ready for a possibly deadly mistake.
