How fast do you want to go?

This drawing was sent to me by motorsports artist Paul Chenard via our good friends over at THE GARAGE. Much of Paul's works are right up my alley as you will see. This excellent drawing is Ken Miles number 98 B production 1965 GT350. Thanks for thinking of us Paul and hopefully we'll be seeing one of Lucky some day ahead.

I couldn't help but chuckle as I read this morning's news topics while having my coffee. While I read the list I kept asking myself, "If these people REALLY want to go fast why don't they just sign up for the La Carrera Panamericana. After all, it's just across the border and there is no limit with some cars doing in excess of 190 miles per hour.

  1. The "official" top speed that I know of is 192 or something set by Kevin Ward ... when I was down there last year driving with the officials I was told by the guy with the radar gun that it was 204. Ward doesn't belive that number, but he does remember crunching the numbers and on paper his "flying stove" could actually do that given the right situation.

    yikes!

flying stove with kevin and i in it in nyc:

  2. I have seen that very impressive photo before and love it. Reminds me of the time I was given a motorcycle police escort thru the streets at speed in my open headered race car as they had me follow them to put my car on display in front of a Jai-Alai (pronounced 'hi-lie') court where we spent the afternoon signing autographs. Only in Mexico.

Based on a lot of the awesome photos I have seen of yours that must be one of your shots. You have a keen eye.

  5. Brian,

What a great place to ride around in such a car. I can just hear the great stories now... "So there I was riding around Times Square in Kevin Ward's fully race prepared Studebaker when all of a sudden..." LOL.

    Paul,

Graphics are coming very soon and traditioon has it that much of the decals/graphics are applied during tech inspection in Mexico so from what I gather you will be seeing a lot of Lucky in the near future.

  6. True story. I was in the navigator's seat. And that was after we had lost the hood; who knows what we could've done with a hood!
